This insane Oscar season finally comes to an end this Sunday night, which will not have a host and, after so much controversies and mix-ups, all 24 categories will be aired live. Ratings are projected to be even lower than before, and it will be interesting to see just how the show will playoff with just presenters carrying the show instead of a host.

Alfonso Cuarón’s critical darling “Roma, the black-and-white art house film that was my choice for the best film of 2018  is the clear front-runner to win best picture. However a foreign-language film has never won best picture, and neither has a Netflix distributed film. At first “Green Book” was a front-runner, however the film failed to receive a Best Director nomination for Peter Farrelly. The well-intended dramedy about race-relations is the type of film the AMPA voters lap up, however the film has had its fair share of controversies as well, including a tweet  from “Green Book” co-writer Nick Vallelonga who expressed support for President Trumps false claim that numerous Muslims in New Jersey were cheering for the demise of the World Trade Center on 9/11. Peter Farrelly has also had allegations of improper misconduct towards Cameron Diaz while they were on set together for the 1998 slapstick comedy “There’s Something About Marry”. These controversies are probably making Oscar forecasters think “Roma” is a front-runner. However if one film could take home the Best Picture prize, it will be “Green Book”. After all it’s like a modern “Driving Miss Daisy”, and Oscar voters tend to favor films that are noble, sentimental, and accessible that holds a message. “Green Book” fits all of that. “Green Book” also won the Produders Guild Award, and “Roma” is just too art-house for the AMPAS to hand it over the top prize. As much as I want “Roma” to win, I just can’t see it winning best picture because the general public would be ripping that film apart because it’s too “arty” or “slow”, and the last thing the Oscars want is to lose more viewers with the public.

Then again “A Star is Born” was certain to be a lock for best picture for the longest time, but now the films awards season momentum appears to be in limbo since it failed to win any huge awards at the Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild, Directors Guild, or the Producer Guilds Awards. Even Bradley Cooper failed to receive a best director nomination. I have been following the Oscar race all season. Here is what I think will happen at the Oscars this Sunday.
