Usually the Oscars are easy to predict by late December. However, this season is looking to be a more competitive contest. While Leonardo DiCaprio and Brie Larson are clear front-runners, most of the other categories remain a huge toss-up. “The Revenant” may seem like a front-runner at this point, for instance, you shouldn’t underestimate the “The Big Short” and “Spotlight”. This is one of the first years where the Best Picture contest could go three ways instead of two. Now with the ceremony approaching, Robert Butler weighs in on who will win, and who should have been nominated. The evening will be a very political and annoying one, hopefully the award-winners focus on their art instead of being didactic. Here are the the predictions.

I’m way, way behind on my viewing for last year, so I don’t have a horse in most of these races. But I’ll be rooting hard for Stallone and Leigh in the supporting categories.
And a “should have been here” that I’d add: Ian McKellen for Best Actor.
The Revenant is a bold and thrilling adventure. It deserves to win best picture that night.
Well my suspicions were correct – another year with a split Spotlight/The Revenant… What a pleasant surprise seeing Mark Rylance wonderful performance recognized over the expected winner Sly.
Thrilled that “Amy” won best documentary – it was my favorite film of last year.
And Robert I agree, Alicia Vikander’s performance in Ex-Machina was over looked but at least it received a win for best visual beating all the odds.
Wow The Martian & Star Wars went home empty, just as I predicted, but its an honor to have nominated! Lol
Um and the program itself… overall I regrettably thought Rock was unfunny, long-winded, awkward, and one segment was so embarrassing, I cringed. Speaking of which – WTF was Stacy Dash doing up there – was that realky suppose to be funny? I hope he never returns to host, this despite the fact that I’m a fan of his work.
